Joel S. Buchalter, MDOrthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Joel Buchalter is a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon and partner at Buchalter Orthopedics. He is the Chief of Joint Replacement Surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital and serves as Medical Director at the Orthopaedic & Specialty Surgery Center in Danbury, CT. He is affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, NY, and the Orthopaedic & Specialty Surgery Center in Danbury.

Dr. Buchalter specializes in joint replacement surgery, focusing on advanced, minimally invasive techniques for hip and knee replacements. He is experienced in using robotics (MAKO) and computer navigation, along with muscle-sparing direct anterior hip replacement using the HANA table. Many patients experience same-day discharge after hip or knee replacement, while others typically stay for 23 hours before going home. His approach includes advanced anesthetic techniques, local anesthetic blocks, and non-narcotic medications to reduce post-operative pain and ensure a faster recovery. Additionally, Dr. Buchalter performs shoulder replacements, hip and knee revisions, and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery.

Board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery since 1990, Dr. Buchalter has re-certified multiple times and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Recognized for his expertise, he has consistently been named a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly and NY Top Docs since 2012.

Dr. Buchalter graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned his medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center and served as Chief Resident during his orthopedic residency at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.
